The Suffolk, England band Basement are finally back after a long wait with a new album called, ‘Wired’ issued by Run For Cover Records. It’s their first of the decade and since they went on a partial hiatus after their 2019 tour with Weezer and the Pixies. “Wired” and “Broken By Design” are the initial singles.
The sound is being described by critics as a mix between their earlier grittier grunge days and their more polished emo pop/rock days. Earlier this year, they toured with Turnstile who also started out pretty raw with plenty of punk and now are stepping into the mainstream further with their most recent material. Basement had done something similar back in the late 2010s but it wasn’t met with as much enthusiasm.
Run For Cover Records press release reads:
“The record’s title condenses all of this into a single word. The textural connotations of WIRED -- metallic, sharp, jagged -- evoke the album’s steely sonics, and on a more conceptual level, the title speaks to Basement’s unshakeable tenacity. An analog band who’ve thrived in an increasingly digital world without resting on the comforts of nostalgia. Five friends who’ve persisted through several breakups and breakthroughs, but have only grown as people and evolved as a musical unit. At this point, Basement have to accept their fate: they're WIRED for this shit.”
