Oleander Release Their First Music in 13 Years with Single, “Fourth of July”

Oleander, the Sacremento band that played with lots of post-grunge in their hard rock sound are back after a 13-year hiatus with a new single called, “Fourth of July”.  Their signature sound was missed but is present here in this single’s energetic upbeat rhythm, solid melody, and slices of its tasty chorus. 

Everything in “Fourth of July” works, the slithery slide guitar-like intro, the wonderful burst-in of the rhythm after about 20 seconds, the rock n’ roll sneer of Thomas Flowers’ vocal, the guitar root riff that the verses mingle with, and the searing guitar riff that answers each of the catchy refrain’s lines.

The music video may be as entertaining, spinning the Independence Day theme into a funny mix of holiday tropes. It starts out as a normal video of girls getting together to go to a party, and wind up at a live concert where Oleander are on stage except you only see those Good Humor ‘Bomb pop’ (which was also called ‘Firecracker’ previously) red, white, and blue ice pops as the band members playing their instruments.  

The band members and friends (in human form) play beer pong and do keg stands, sets up a science lab volcano replication that squirts out beer, and set off fireworks.
