Led Zeppelin has been notoriously strict with archive releases so it comes as a total surprise that a year after celebrating the 50th anniversary of their famed ‘Physical Graffiti’ album last year with a live E.P., Jimmy Page has dug out the demo for one of its songs, “Ten Years Gone” on his personal YouTube page.

“Ten Years Gone” was one of the songs played live on their 1977 tour and in 1979 as well.  It holds one of their most complicated arrangements with several guitar overdubs and song sections laid out meticulously and immaculately.  It’s a heartfelt tune that touches on a past relationship and how time moves on.

The demo is just a guitar instrumental by Page.  Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, nor John Bonham are heard.  It’s a bit sloppy since Page is still working out a guitar line that was setting up other guitar overdubs later.  He’s bouncing back and forth between lead and rhythm parts with some soloing covering what was to be a tremendous guitar solo on the finished version.

Fans on YouTube have acknowledged that they want more Led Zeppelin demos like this on the video’s comment section and hopefully, Page, Plant, and Jones consider issuing more.
