Legendary band Green Day brought rock back to the Super Bowl - it's the first time since Maroon 5 played the halftime show in 2019. The Oakland based Green Day were in their proverbial backyard when they played before the start of Super Bowl 60 last night.
It has been a show that typically has all kinds of music from R&B to rap to Latin to country to pop – but rock has not seen the spotlight in all media of late. It's becoming rare to see rock music in the nation’s spotlight whether its award shows, ads, movies or tv, but Green Day was highly overdue for their time at the Super Bowl and their star power is as strong as ever 35 years after they began.
Green Day has been outspoken politically since ‘American Idiot’ was released in 2004 and though the songs themselves that were performed serve their purpose of identifying the mood of the country, they added no new political ad-libs. They were censored for the cursing in their songs but the show went smoothly with no controversy. They played “Time of Your Life” with an orchestra, “Holiday”, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, and “American Idiot”.
Of course, everything is bet-able at the Super Bowl so these were the odds for what Green Day might play:
“American Idiot” +100
“Basket Case” +300
“Know Your Enemy” +400
“Boulevard of Broken Dreams” +500
“When I Come Around” +600
“21 Guns” +700
“Holiday” +750
“Minority” +800
“Longview” +1200
“She” +1400
“Brain Stew” +1400
“Wake Me Up When September Ends” +2000
