Feeder’s New ‘Comfort in Sound’ Live Album Relives The Band’s Toughest Times

Feeder are celebrating their 2002 album Comfort in Sound with a new live release, Comfort in Sound Live, arriving February 27th. The Welsh band—fixtures of the U.K. rock scene since the mid‑1990s with a string of hits on both sides of the Atlantic—have often spoken about how vital this album was in keeping the group together during one of their darkest chapters.

In early 2002, after three successful albums and growing international momentum, drummer Jon Lee died by suicide at age 33. The loss devastated the band. For a time, they considered ending Feeder entirely. Ultimately, they chose to continue, believing Lee would have wanted the music to live on. They returned to the studio and created Comfort in Sound, an album that carried the weight of their grief while offering a gentler, more reflective sound than their earlier work.

Where Feeder’s late‑’90s output leaned into post‑grunge aggression—thick distortion, driving rhythms, and raw energy—Comfort in Sound embraced healing. Its themes were more introspective, its tone more mature, and its arrangements closer to classic rock than their earlier, heavier edge. Even the title captured the band’s emotional refuge: the idea that creativity could act as a balm for deep wounds.

Despite limited promotion beyond touring, the album became a major success. With drummer Mark Richardson stepping in—having contributed to parts of the record—the band embarked on a U.K. tour where audiences welcomed them with overwhelming support. Those shows helped reaffirm that continuing was the right path.

More than two decades later, Feeder revisited the album in full on their 2025 Comfort in Sound tour, performing it front to back each night. The new live album captures 14 tracks from those sold‑out shows.

Comfort In Sound Live is Feeder’s first official live album of their critically acclaimed fourth studio record, captured during the band’s sold‑out September and October 2025 U.K. tour. Available exclusively through their online store, the album will be released on CD and in three collectible vinyl editions.
