U2 celebrated Good Friday by giving fans a second unannounced E.P. of 2026, Easter Lily. The first E.P., the political ‘Days of Ash’ was released on February 18th and reached the top ten in several countries. ‘Easter Lily’ changes their direction towards more general topics compared to the last E.P.’s focus on specific people according to Bono’s liner notes.
“With 'Easter Lily', we ended up asking very personal questions like: Are our own relationships up to these challenging times? How hard do you fight for friendship? Can our faith survive the mangling of meaning that those algorithms love to reward? Is all religion rubbish and still ripping us apart…? Or are there answers to find in its crevices? Are there ceremonies, rituals, dances that we might be missing in our lives?”
Many thought ‘Days of Ash’ was a preview of what was to come with their new album scheduled for later in the year, but now, U2 have thrown us all off the scent of what’s to come. It may be a banner year for U2 who have been pretty quiet in the studio this decade.
