Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo has been moving between projects throughout the decade. After opening the 2020s with a new STP record (Perdida)—as he had done in each of the previous three decades—DeLeo stepped into new territory with his first solo album, Lessons Learned, released in 2022. The record featured a different vocalist on each track and leaned into the subdued, intimate atmosphere that defined Perdida. Along the way, he continued performing live with both STP and the Joe Perry Project.
Last year, Robert and his brother Dean completed a full album under the name One More Satellite. By late 2025, DeLeo revealed on the 100 Guitarists podcast that he was already deep into work on his second solo album.
“I am trying to finish up a second solo record that I'm doing right now. And like I did on my first one, I have different singers that I'm getting to come in,” he said. “People always ask why I don't sing my own songs, [and it's] 'cause I really can't. And that's why, fortunately, I have some great friends with amazing voices. So I'm trying to finish that up right now. I'm doing all the guitars.”
DeLeo confirmed several vocalists already involved, including Jimmy Gnecco, Jay Buchanan, Tim Bluhm, Trey Hensley, Omar Velasco, and Pete Shoulder—who previously sang over the DeLeo brothers’ tracks for the One More Satellite project.
While Stone Temple Pilots continue to perform live, there’s no indication of new material from the band. DeLeo, meanwhile, appears intent on keeping his creative momentum alive. Lessons Learned showcased his songwriting strength even as he shifted toward a more traditional rock palette, leaving fans curious whether his next effort will lean heavier or stay understated.
He also hinted at another project on the horizon. “I have something with Paul Rodgers,” DeLeo shared. “Haven’t met or played with Paul Rodgers yet. So me and Matt Sorum—Matt asked me to do this thing in Palm Springs in a couple of months to play some songs with Paul Rodgers. And he can still really sing.”
Rodgers, known for his work with Bad Company, Free, and The Firm, was a staple of rock radio during DeLeo’s youth—making the collaboration an easy yes.
Though DeLeo is juggling multiple endeavors, none of the projects currently have release dates.
