Soundgarden and Taylor Momsen Will Play At the Seattle Seahawks NFL Opener

We’ve heard some news recently about Soundgarden after years of inactivity.  They performed at their induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame late last year, Kim Thayil has a new autobiography, ‘The Screaming Life’, and band member Hiro Yamamoto has new plans with his other band, Truly.  Now Soundgarden members, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd will get together with The Pretty Reckless vocalist Taylor Momsen for a brief performance at the Seattle Seahawks home opener on September 9th at Lumen Field.

It’s great to see Soundgarden active again and Taylor Momsen, who performed with Soundgarden at the Hall of Fame, is a fantastic singer so fans will get a nice short treat.  It won’t have the same special moment feeling we got from the HOF broadcast, and it’s also not really the ideal live audience – a bunch of football fans, some who probably don’t listen to rock music or know of Soundgarden.  It does seem random that they’d want to do this event and perhaps fans would be better served with a full one-off show in a context where the audience is purely Soundgarden fans.

Some may also wonder if it’s worth using the Soundgarden name for something kind of trivial like a song or two at a football game.  But it will be a pleasure to see the band members playing together again.
