It’s a fantastic day to be a Shinedown fan. The band has returned in a big way, announcing their eighth studio album, EI8HT, set for release on May 29. Even better, they’ve unveiled a massive 54‑date world tour kicking off in Green Bay on May 13. And for a first taste of the new era, Shinedown has already just released the album’s lead single, “Safe and Sound,” now available for streaming.
Frontman Brent Smith shared an official statement celebrating the moment:
“This album is over a year in the making. Without question as a band we pushed ourselves like never before… Eric, myself, Zach, and Barry are so honored to create and work with such an extraordinary producer, engineer, mixer, songwriter, musician, performer, and bandmate. We are so excited to finally announce our 8th studio album titled EI8HT alongside our Dance Kid Dance Act II World Tour.”
“Dance Kid Dance,” released last year, became yet another #1 for the undisputed kings of the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Here at The Rock Lair, we’ve been tracking the band’s recent country‑inflected single “Searchlight,” which has had a tougher climb maintaining Shinedown’s unprecedented top‑five streak—but today’s news resets the energy entirely.
The band recently withdrew from the Rock the Country project due to political differences, but this announcement puts the focus right back where fans want it: new music, a new era, and a massive tour. Coheed and Cambria and Black Stone Cherry will join select dates, making this one of the year’s most exciting rock lineups.
Shinedown season has officially begun.
