The Foo Fighters played their third live concert of 2026 on January this time in Tasmania, Australia on January 24th.  They were successful with their first shows of the year, in Mexico and Los Angeles.  During the Tasmania show, Dave Grohl was in good spirits and has enjoyed playing Australia in the past according to his past comments. At one point during the show, while addressing the crowd, he half-joked;

“We might have a whole new record of f***ing songs that we just finished the other day.”

While many media news headlines are declaring a new album official since it’s definitely a possibility after his comment, Grohl is not always so straightforward when joking as we’ve seen with their comical social media outings.  Yes, it would be great to hear from them after one of their better recent career albums in 2023’s ‘But Here We Are’, which was extra touching as fans could still feel Taylor Hawkins’ presence in that work’s tone since it was released a short time after he passed.

Speaking of the drummers, if there is a new album, is there any Josh Freese on drums or is it all Ilan Rubin, their new drummer?  It is fun to speculate, but it’s still unclear whether or not an album is completed or if it is currently being recorded.  Perhaps a bunch of new songs have been recorded but not mixed yet?  I think it’s best to wait until we get a clearer communication of what’s happening with the Foo Fighters before jumping on an off-handed comment.  Either way, the band are one of the leaders of the rock scene and are household names in the U.S. and elsewhere so a release from them would make waves.  Whatever happens, we’ll live in anticipation for now.
