Eddie Vedder Says 'Pearl Jam Currently Between Eras'

Drummer Matt Cameron leaving Pearl Jam in July of last year has ended an era according to singer Eddie Vedder.

“The quote was, I think, ‘Pearl Jam is in between eras at the moment',” Vedder told Rolling Stone recently. “And I thought that was actually pretty concise.”

Vedder was being interviewed by Rolling Stone because of Vedder’s new documentary that was released to Netflix last week covering the research scientists are doing for sufferers of epidermolysis bullosa disease, a rare skin disorder.  The documentary features discussion about the disease and a bunch of acoustic solo performances from Vedder.

But folks also would like to know if and when Pearl Jam will be whole again and what’s in store for the future. "We're in the lab, we’re woodshedding, excited, it’s cool to think of change. As much as we'd like to have done it the way we did it forever - and we'll still be able to do that thing - I think we’re all just excited for the future.”

Vedder has known how to deal with media for a long time and while he is inferring that the band have been rehearsing and may have a drummer, it’s unclear.  Rolling Stone pressed him on it.

“If I were to say anything, I think we'd wanna have a band discussion about what we’d wanna say or who would be the messenger or whatever.”

Currently, we don’t know if Pearl Jam have a drummer but there are no currently plans in the works and with their pace of play in past years, it’s not indefinite when we’ll hear new music from them.  No longer the prolific act they once were in the 1990s and 2000s, the band seem to be satisfied releasing only a couple of albums a decade as has been the case in recent decades.  We’ll stay tuned and keep an eye out for Pearl Jam news in the future.  For now, we have the documentary and Eddie Vedder has some solo shows planned for later this year.
