1990s Rock Band Ash to Issue 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of ‘1977’

Ash, the alternative rock band from North Ireland, had a number one album in the U.K. with ‘1977’, and now it’s seeing a celebration from the band 30 years later. Issued on May 6, 1996, Ash were tough to pinpoint when it came to describing their sound as they were considered by some as Brit-pop, some as regular pop or rock, and at times, they’d pump up the volume and dirt and pull off some awesome post-grunge. Really poppy post-grunge.
Their singles were big enough to crossover to the United States though in the shadows of Oasis. In the U.K. the album reached the top because of five hit singles, “Kung Fu”, “Girl From Mars”, “Angel Interceptor”, “Goldfinger” and “Oh Yeah”. The songs were not as soaked in European culture as Brit-pop, so Ash did well in the United States for a brief time.
The band performed live on YouTube Wednesday in Belfast after an interview about ‘1977’, and will be touring Europe this year to celebrate the album.
