At The Rock Lair, we like to pluck out the acts from festivals who still mix some grunge into their sound. If you’re into grunge and headed to Louder Than Life this year, here’s who you have to look forward to.
Thursday
Skillet
The band was around for the first wave of post-grunge though some consider them closer to Christian rock. They have a dozen albums with two issued this decade. Their current lineup: husband John and wife Korey Cooper along with Jen Ledger and Seth Morrison.
Lit
They have been around since the late 1990s with several hits but after their first four albums, they have only sporadically toured and released new material. The brothers A Jay Popoff and Jeremy Popoff are still together, original bassist Kevin Baldes is still in the group along with drummer Taylor Carroll. Their sound is a mix of pop-punk, post-grunge, and hard rock.
Adelita’s Way
‘Power’ was when we last heard from Adelita’s Way from an album standpoint, but the band have been playing live consistently for years. They haven’t really lit of the charts in the past decade but their hits are still remembered. From Las Vegas, there will be plenty of fans waiting for Adelita’s Way at LTL. Rick Dejesus, Trevor Stafford, Grayson Erhard, and Andrew Cushing make up the lineup.
Red
It’s unclear if Red will play Louder Than Life. They were supposed to be celebrating their ‘End of Silence’ debut album from 20 years ago with their setlist at LTL but original vocalist Michael Barnes just left the band on March 1st of this year. Similar to Skillet, Red have a foot in post-grunge and a foot in Christian rock but to play this show, some changes need to be made including hiring a new lead vocalist. Original members Anthony Armstrong and Randy Armstrong were to play alongside drummer Dan Johnson. Their last album was ‘Rated R’ issued in 2023.
Friday
The Pretty Reckless
The Pretty Reckless still tour frequently but they only have one album this decade and the fun compilation, ‘Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas’ which found Momsen going back to her holiday past. Ben Phillips, Mark Damon, and Jamie Perkins fill out the lineup. They did just announce a new album for this year called, 'Dear God'.
Badflower
Badflower’s Josh Katz, as reported, has been struggling with his voice of late but the band is still hot coming off of last year’s album, ‘No Place Like Home’. Katz is joined by Joey Morrow, Alex Espiritu, and Anthony Sonetti. It's unclear if Badflower will play considering the band recently cancelled the remainder of their tour.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (celebrating 20 years of ‘Don’t You Fake It’)
20 years since their debut album ‘Don’t You Fake It’, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus haven’t had hits in quite some time but they’re still together rocking. Only Ronnie Winter is left from that original lineup that hit big in 2006.
Saturday
Halestorm
Halestorm is a touring machine and recently released ‘Everest’, they’re sixth album. “Darkness Always Wins” and “Like a Woman Can” were hits. Lizzy Hale, Arejay Hale, Joe Hottinger and Josh Smith have been together since 2004.
Tantric
Tantric are celebrating the 25 year anniversary of their self-titled debut, probably their most successful album. “Moonlight Feels Right” was a single issued last year. Singer Hugo Ferreira is with another new lineup of bandmates – there’s been inconsistency in their lineup since original members Todd Whitener and Matt Taul left in 2007.
Sunday
No acts on Sunday play anything involving grunge.
