Long time alternative rock band Sponge are back for possibly the last time with a new album called ‘Recuerda Tu Muerte’ which translates to ‘Remember Your Death’.  “Self-Inflicted Loss” was the preview song and now all 10 tracks at 41 minutes total are available on physical media and streaming.  This is their 11th studio album.

Leader, singer-songwriter Vinnie Dombroski, has been saying outright that this is the final album though Sponge will continue to tour.  Vinnie is in great shape at 63, and still maintains his exciting performances when joined on stage with guitarists Kyle Neely and Andy Patalan along with bassist Tim Palatan and newer member Dave Coughlin on drums.

Vinnie told the Oakland Press he was worn out. “I’ve just kind of had it. I’ve got more to say but living in the space that people call Sponge; I’ve got very little insight into what that is anymore – like honest, inside.  So how do I make a Sponge record.  What does that mean?

Vinnie has never been more in doubt.  “I sit there and try to create somehow and I can’t do it.  I won’t do it and that’s about it.”  With over a 150 Sponge songs in the catalog by 2026, it was unclear after just 3 albums with personnel changes and uncertainty about the future around the millennium.  But by 2003, Sponge were back with ‘For All the Drugs in the World’ and have been pretty consistently releasing material ever since.
